Default VE3NJH Memorial Service Info

Donald Heaslip
HEASLIP, Donald William Maj (ret'd) RCAF VE3 NJH Peacefully at home, on July 20th, 2010 at age 75. Beloved husband of Margaret Heaslip. Predeceased by his first wife Lynne K. Heaslip. Loving father of Steven Heaslip, Geri Stewart, Richard Heaslip (Bonnie), Janet Heaslip (Mark), Michael Heaslip (Kelly). Loving stepfather to James McKinley (Debbie), Maureen Funai (Joe), Shawn McKinley, and the late Erin McKinley/Vaux. Beloved grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Survived by his four sisters and one brother all of Oshawa, Ontario. Don was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for 27 years. Don served as a flight instructor on T33 aircraft with #2 AFS in Portage LaPrairie, as a fighter pilot in 414 Air Defence Squadron on CF100 Interceptor aircraft and later on CF101 Voodoo aircraft, with 446 SAM, 414 EWF, 412 FanJet Falcon VIP, and with Energy Mines and Resources in Aeronautical Charts. Following Don's military career he continued with the federal government in EMR where he retired as Director, Aeronautical Maps and Charts in 1991. After his retirement Don pursued his business interests as a consultant and an entrepreneur forming Lyndon Systems. Throughout Don's life he maintained his interests in electronics, woodworking, metal working and 35 years as an amateur radio enthusiast. Don was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He gave his time to coaching his childrens' baseball and softball teams and was especially committed to spending time with his grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Saturday, July 24th 1pm at St. Augustine's Church on 1060 Baseline Road in Ottawa, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Internment, Capital Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations in memory of Don may made to the Tamir Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. The Heaslip family wishes to thank Dr. Susan Gick for her compassionate and gracious care throughout Don's illness. Special thanks to Veterans Affairs staff and nurses, and the supportive team from CCAC
